Monday's Great Match Sounds Good

Posted by Clare Gordon on Sat, Oct 27, 2012 at 12:14 PM

This Monday, October 29, will see the 19th Annual Spanish Great Match event arrive at the Leftbank Annex (for the first time in Portland). A comprehensive Spanish wine and food promotion, the Great Match will be hosting trade seminars with featured winemakers throughout the day leading up to a consumer tasting from 6 pm to 9 pm that is open to the public. Spanish wines are obviously the starring players, and eight local Latin-influenced restaurants will be providing snacks to complement their flavor profiles. The $50 ticket price is admittedly steep for such an event, but a portion of the proceeds go toward scholarships for oenology and wine students at the Oregon Culinary Institute... which is pretty cool. Also, you shouldn't have a problem consuming enough expensive vino to make that price tag worthwhile— there'll be 150 wineries representing and pouring. Enjoy a classy time-out from scary events leading up to the 31st and learn something new while supporting future sommeliers. I would think there's a big future market for them with the recent local wine bar boom. Tickets available here.
