Winter at Powell's: Cookbooks, Vaginas

Posted by Alison Hallett on Wed, Oct 31, 2012 at 12:29 PM

WANT WANT WANT
  • WANT WANT WANT

There are a ton of cookbook authors at Powell's in the next month. Of particular interest: Deb Perelman of Smitten Kitchen shares her solid new cookbook on November 5; pleasure-denying Cook's Illustrated/America's Test Kitchen founder Christopher Kimball is at Cedar Hills on November 12 to present The Science of Good Cooking , a compendium of Kimball's test-tube cooking tips and "foolproof recipes"; and Scott Heimendinger is here on November 30 with Modernist Cuisine at Home, a home-cook oriented version of the wildly expensive, six-volume, highly covetable Modernist Cuisine. (Their website=total time suck.)

Oh, and then there's this.

Powell’s City of Books presents Naomi Wolf
Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at 7:30pm, 1005 W. Burnside St., Portland

"From the respected cultural critic Naomi Wolf comes a work of cutting edge science and cultural history — a radical exploration of the vagina as a gateway to, and medium of, female consciousness itself...
Could a profound connection between a woman's brain and her experience of her vagina affect her greater sense of creativity—even her consciousness? In her provocative and important new book, VAGINA: A New Biography, bestselling author of The Beauty Myth, Naomi Wolf argues that this connection is not only real—and long-overlooked—but that it is fundamental to a woman's sense of self."
