Black Friday Walkout Protest Under Way At SE Portland WalMart

Posted by Sarah Mirk on Thu, Nov 22, 2012 at 9:45 PM

The clock hasn't even officially hit Black Friday and already protesters have gathered outside SE 82nd Avenue's WalMart to support tomorrow's planned massive worker walkout. The Portland police have so far made one arrest of a person who was "creating a disturbance inside the store"—I assume that's a protester, not someone stampeding for a new blender.

This photo of the action comes via Occupy Portland:

There are many workplace issues driving the walkout, including low pay, crummy benefits, and the company's alleged systematic discrimination against female employees.

The big protest starts at Portland's SE 82nd Avenue store tomorrow at 10:30am.
