More Friday Music Videos: Y La Bamba, Aan, the Parson Red Heads, and Illmaculate

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Fri, Jan 18, 2013 at 3:59 PM

These Friday music videos might be starting to be a thing. No promises, though. Not too many videos today, but let's jump in.

Andrew Sloan directed this stark but magnetic video of Y la Bamba singer Luz Elena Mendoza for the song "Michoacán," off the band's Court the Storm album from last year. This clip is totally great, for obvious reasons. While it's not a new Y la Bamba song, there will be some new Y la Bamba songs very shortly. The band has a new EP finished and almost here—Oh, February will be out on January 29.

More after the jump!

Aan have a new single coming out soon as well, and while we don't have a song from "Mystery Life" just yet, the band put together this promotional video that's just ridiculous. Sure, it's the same joke, but it gets funnier as it goes along. Watch. "Mystery Life" comes out on February 5 on Cool Summer Records, and Aan is going on a Northwest tour in the beginning of February. They'll play Mississippi Studios on Wednesday, February 6—and there may be more new Aan music on the way, too.

This is superb: Three songs from the Parson Red Heads—"Times," "Peace in the Valley," and "Long Way Back"—beautifully shot at the Bob White Theatre on SE Foster by the folks at the Portland Sessions. Somebody tell these crazy kids that they are facing the wrong way. The Parsons have a new, deluxe version of their splendid 2011 album Yearling coming out; it includes the six tracks that make up their Murmuration EP. Ryan White at the Oregonian talked to the band's Evan Way about the deluxe version (article here, which also reveals a new album called Orb Weaver is on the way this year, which will include the song "Times" from this video). The band will play a release show for the jumbo-sized Yearling at Mississippi Studios next week, on Thursday, January 24.

Last up: Illmaculate and OnlyOne dropped the trailer for their new video, "Substance Abuse," which I won't post here—I'll wait until we can see the whole thing, which supposedly comes out this coming Wednesday—but it led me back to Illmaculate's last video, "Walk on Water (Fear of God)," which I don't think I ever posted. So here it is! Both "Substance Abuse" and "Walk on Water (Fear of God)" appear on Illmaculate x OnlyOne's new record, Chron: Legacy, which is a free download on Bandcamp. They play a record release show at Branx on Saturday, February 16.
