The hacker group "Anonymous" has taken responsibility for overrunning the FBI's sentencing commission website in retaliation for the Aaron Swartz witch hunt which resulted in his death. The group has claimed to have infiltrated several other government websites and to have accessed sensitive files which they will soon make public.

Almost 40 protesters have died and more than 300 are wounded during continued violence over the sentencing of 21 people to death in Port Said, Egypt in connection to the more than 70 deaths at a soccer match last February. Additional protests are taking place on the anniversary of the Egyptian uprising which ousted former President Hosni Mubarak.

A Venezuelan prison riot has left at least 50 people dead and more than 90 injured after troops made plans to disarm prisoners, yes you read that correctly. The prison is notorious for violence and prisoners have easy access to both weapons and drugs. Families of the prisoners blame the violence on abuse by officials.

Thousands of protesters in Washington DC marched on the Capitol in memorial of the Newtown shootings and to call for stricter gun control measures. A rally was also held with speakers supporting mental health coverage and asking for a deeper look into violent video games.

And speaking of mental health, progress is being made in the study of schizophrenia. A new study evaluates high-functioning (MacArthur Genius Award high-functioning) schizophrenics and their occupations as well as their mechanisms for coping with an otherwise debilitating disease. The verdict? Symptoms of schizophrenia and autism can retreat or disappear with cognitive behavioral therapy, giving hope to many.

San Francisco pursuing the lofty goal of becoming a zero-waste city. They've already seen an 80 percent landfill diversion rate after mandating recycling in 2009. By imposing fines and making the already intricate bin system even more complicated the city hopes to bring that number to 100 by 2020.

A dolphin stranded in the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn died yesterday after being unable to find its way back to the ocean. Observers were hopeful that the dolphin would free itself during a high tide but died shortly before, shooting black gunk out of its nose.
