Good Morning, News!

Posted by Dirk VanderHart on Tue, Jun 11, 2013 at 9:29 AM

No surprises here. The private security contractor that employed National Security Agency whistleblower Edward Snowden has announced he's been fired "for violations of the firm's code of ethics and firm policy."

Here's the backstory of the leak, which has likely cost Snowden his comfortable existence. CNN says he'll soon face charges.

The NSA, by the way, isn't JUST mining information on all your web activity. It's also playing pranks on al-Qaeda magazine editors.

And now there's maybe a State Department scandal?

Turkey's prime minister has taken a new, harder line against demonstrations in the country, ordering riot police to move in and disperse prostesters in Taksim Square, the epicenter of the country's unrest. The police action—which apparently included more than a little duplicity— comes just a day before Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan is slated to meet with the protest's leaders.

A hopeful round of talks between acrimonious neighbors North and South Korea has been delayed. They can't even agree who gets to sit in. Probably a bad sign.

The Obama administration is relenting in its fight to limit access to the morning after pill, meaning girls and women of any age will have access to emergency contraception.

Airport sheds in Atlanta are exploding. Well, one did. It's no big deal, though.

Multnomah County is set, this morning, to require gender-neutral bathrooms be available in all new county buildings. The move has a variety of motives, says the O—most starkly the complaints of a number of transgender county employees who've said they feel uncomfortable in the existing male or female restrooms.

A suicide bombing outside Afghanistan's Supreme Court today has killed at least 16.

Yeah, it rained on me this morning. It's still far sunnier than we've got any right to expect. Never forget what the Weather Widget did for you this auspicious June.

Lastly: Dog on a zipline, and not visibly confused about it.
