The news of Red Fang's upcoming album hit the internet yesterday like a sack of wet meat falling off the back of the truck. The Portland riff-meisters' third full-length is due out on Relapse this October—it's titled Whales and Leeches, and that's the cover art up there, courtesy of Portland based artist Orion Landau, who does lots of artwork for Relapse and poster design for the White Owl Social Club. Whales and Leeches was produced at Type Foundry by Chris Funk and mixed by Vance Powell, both of whom also worked on Red Fang's 2011 album Murder the Mountains.

Earlier this year, Red Fang had this to say about the album sessions: “We’re hyper excited about this new album. The basic tracks are like rabid monkeys we’re wrangling at Type Foundry in our hometown of Portland, OR. Producer Chris Funk has almost been amputated twice. Surprise guests abound! We’re in the final moments before all systems are go on this sucker. Dig people!”

Red Fang play Dante's on Saturday, August 10 as part of comedian (and Mercury contributor) Ian Karmel's farewell show to Portland. That one's gonna be a doozy.
