Old Salt's Thursday Market

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Mon, Aug 12, 2013 at 12:59 PM

I have been eagerly watching the success/popularity of Old Salt Marketplace, being that I moved into the neighborhood about a year ago and the area is something like what Merc food writer Chris Onstad described in his review (liked above) as a dining "Siberia." (Although when I get turned away but a weekday wait for a table at OSM, I still harbor loyalty to the shrimp salad at the Spare Room—and yes I'm being completely serious.)

Recently the Old Salt added weight to the "Marketplace" in its name by starting up a farmer's market in its parking lot every Thursday from 4-7 pm, filling out the farmer's market scene in a neighborhood that's somewhat lacking (props to the 42nd & Killingsworth market, but it's not exactly a big one). In addition to some lovely local produce options, the OSM is also hosting vendors like Rev Nat's cider (which, heyyy, we also recently profiled), German bakery Fressen Bread, Brumm's Pickles, and Seed & Thistle Apothecary, whose goods are made right there in the Cully neighborhood (I'm hoping to try their sitz bath formula made with lavender, yarrow, and raspberry leaf for post-working soreness, but they seem to roll out a different series of products every month or so according to what's in season).

So don't be afraid to come out to Siberia. Between OSM and Magoo's, we've got something for just about everyone these days.
