Video Vriday! Diesto, Wild Ones, Fen Wik Ren & More

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Fri, Aug 30, 2013 at 3:59 PM

Ving Rhames, it's Video Vriday!

Diesto's new slab, For Water or Blood came out this week on Eolian Empire, and here's the video for "Edge of the World," directed by Adam Cornelius. The video co-stars Lord Dying's Erik Olsen as a Diesto superfan who makes Kathy Bates look like the 49ers' Banjo Man. Diesto plays TONIGHT at Foggy Notion up on Lombard, along with Honduran and Fellwoods. They're about to go on tour, and will be back to play the Ash Street on September 27.

Here's the new video from Wild Ones, starring the band's lead singer Danielle Sullivan alongside Lebron James. Say what? Just watch. Directed by Gary Tyler and with camera by Chris Cantino, this clip finds the shared agony that inhabits the worlds of both love and sports. Wild Ones play MusicfestNW on Friday, September 6 at the Star Theater. They're also playing CD Baby's MFNW day party on Saturday, September 7 at Bunk Bar; that's free and goes from noon to 5 pm, with sets from Aan, And And And, and Thanks. Wild Ones go on at 4 pm.

Fen Wik Ren are responsible for this one, the title track from their album Holding Out for Something Good. You could look at this as a relatively straightforward, standard, mimed-performance video clip, but the inventive photography and editing turn this into something special. The song's great, too. Fen Wik Ren just played Mississippi Studios last night, information that is no good to you now unless you have a time machine. Sorry about that.

Here's a stunning performance from Vikesh Kapoor, filmed at the Portland Playhouse. It's a solo acoustic take of his "I Dreamt Blues," from his forthcoming album The Ballad of Willy Robbins, which'll be out October 15 on Mama Bird Recording Co. Kapoor's upcoming record release show will also take place at Portland Playhouse on Sunday, October 13, and the former church-converted-theater is bound to be the ideal place to see Kapoor perform. If you can't wait, he's also playing Mama Bird's MFNW showcase at the Alberta Street Pub on Saturday, September 7.

We'll end today with another live take, this one from the super-duper, terrific, awesome Houndstooth during their recent OPB session. I'll say that Houndstooth's live show is one of Portland's best right now, and here's a chance to get up close to it and smear your face all over the glass. I'm posting the expansive, restless "Wheel on Fire," but be sure to check out the full session over on OPB, which includes three other tunes and an interview. Houndstooth plays MusicfestNW on Thursday, September 5 at Bunk Bar.
