MUSIC—Wait, what's this? A show with Emmylou Harris and Richard Thompson? Harris, reunited with dear friend and collaborator Rodney Crowell, is showing off a new duet album of undressed, elegant country ephemera. And if that's not treasure enough, they've asked Thompson and his electric Brit-folk to get the whole shebang started. DCT

FILM—Few films garner the sort of praise that 12 Years a Slave is already getting. It's the latest from Steve McQueen (Hunger, Shame), and audiences and critics are calling Slave a brutal, difficult reckoning with America's horrific past. They're also calling it one of the best movies of the year. EH
