Well, this is a bit of a bummer: After a strong season opener with Detroit, Portland Playhouse is canceling the second show of their season, The Other Place, because lead actress Gretchen Corbett has shingles.

I realized I don't actually know what shingles is, other than that it hurts: According to Wikipedia, shingles is "a viral disease characterized by a painful skin rash with blisters in a limited area on one side of the body (left or right), often in a stripe." If you're over 60, the CDC recommends you get vaccinated, as older adults are the most susceptible.

Corbett was absolutely brilliant in the otherwise-meh Mother Teresa Is Dead last season, and I was looking forward to seeing her in the lead role of The Other Place, as a high-powered scientist who gets dementia. (Though given that CoHo is currently running a show about dementia, the excellent The Outgoing Tide, maybe it's for the best that Playhouse bumps this until next season.)

The show was scheduled to open on Nov 13. Instead, you can see Liminal's experimental production of Our Town (not a joke), which opens the same weekend.
