Wild Flag Is Over; Sleater-Kinney Reunion on the Horizon

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Thu, Dec 5, 2013 at 11:29 AM

Wild Flag
In a new interview with British music site The Skinny, Janet Weiss suggests that Wild Flag—the "supergroup" consisting of herself, her former Sleater-Kinney bandmate Carrie Brownstein, Mary Timony, and Rebecca Cole—is over.
Sadly, Wild Flag, despite acclaim for their eponymous debut, are no more: “It was great but I think it just kinda ran its course," Weiss tells us. "It’s hard to have a band when you live five hours apart by plane.”
The article goes on to theorize that this raises the possibility of a Sleater-Kinney reunion coming soon, although of course Weiss is currently drumming for her longtime band Quasi; they're in the middle of a UK tour.

As the news echoes around the internet (as in here and here), pundits are hoping, hoping for a Sleater-Kinney reunion, citing as encouraging evidence the November 29 Pearl Jam show in Portland, when Weiss, Brownstein, and Corin Tucker all joined Vedder & Co. onstage for a finale of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World." (Rolling Stone went so far as to call it a Sleater-Kinney reunion.)

Of course, there is no official news on a full-on S-K reunion yet, but I think it's very safe to say it happens in 2014. Gossip? Hearsay? Yes. But rumors of the three members playing together continue to circulate around town, as do whispers of a big Portland show to happen somewhere in the second half of the calendar year. When the official announcement comes, it will be huge news—don't worry, you won't miss it—but if you had a Sleater-Kinney concert on your wishlist, you can start getting those hopes up.
