Man, I've been posting a ton of trailers lately—studios have been cranking 'em out the past week or two, hoping to get them in front of as many holiday moviegoers as possible. One of those trailers was for 22 Jump Street, which I think I led into with something like, "Hey, everyone thought 21 Jump Street was going to be terrible, but it was great!" Another movie everyone thought was going to be terrible but turned out great? 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes, which I'm still surprised and delighted turned out to be as badass and fun as it did. Rebooting one of the most beloved sci-fi series of all time with CG monkeys (okay, rebooting one of the most beloved sci-fi films of all time, which was then followed by a bunch of sequels of wildly varying quality) should have backfired completely—instead, it was probably the finest motion picture I've ever seen about a troubled super-monkey who expresses his emotions by starting a brutal war against humanity.

Now there's a sequel, which loses original director Rupert Wyatt and original co-star James Franco, but gains Cloverfield and Let Me In's director, Matt Reeves, and still has Andy Serkis as Caesar, the monkey who will personally kill you.

That's an excellent trailer. Also, just in case my rampant misanthropy didn't already make it clear, I am totally, 100 percent on Team Caesar.
