Wolves of Wall Street! Mandela! Product Placement! It's This Week's Mercury Film Section!

THE WOLF OF WALL STREET Fun for the whole family.
  • THE WOLF OF WALL STREET Fun for the whole family!

THE WOLF OF WALL STREET! Scorsese's latest wipes away all memory of the underwhelming Hugo, Shutter Island, and Shine a Light: This thing's hilarious and insane and horrifying and a ton of fun. And that Quaalude scene. Man. That Quaalude scene.

MANDELA: LONG WALK TO FREEDOM! At the very last minute, with seconds left in 2013, Idris Motherfucking Elba swoops in to play the one guy who's cooler than Stacker Pentecost. Marjorie thought the biopic was fine, but also that it tries to do too much in too little time.

THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY! Product placement is a given for most big studio pictures—remember that time Superman had a fight inside an IHOP?—but by all accounts, Walter Mitty takes it next level. Alison says the movie's terrible for a bunch of other reasons, too.

All those reviews and more are in the Mercury's august, beloved, and 100 percent reliable Film section; there's also plenty more in Film Shorts, and here are your Movie Times.
