New York cops seized hundreds of bags of heroin and made four arrests at a Manhattan apartment building yesterday—all of it fallout from Philip Seymour Hoffman's death by apparent overdose.

Hoffman's death is prompting more than arrests. It's giving law enforcement across the nation an opportunity to spread the word about heroin. Portland police, for instance, sent out a release detailing 21 overdose-related deaths last year. The governor of Maine instead turned his attention to the hundreds of drug-addicted infants born in the state each year.
