MusicfestNW confirmed many of the changes for this year's festival, as was first reported by the Mercury back in December. In a press release this morning, the Portland music festival announced that this year's event will indeed be a two-day affair taking place solely at Tom McCall Waterfront Park. As we reported, there will be room for 10,000 attendees and two stages.

New information: This year's MFNW will take place a couple weekends earlier than past years, on August 16 and 17, which puts it closer to Pickathon weekend (August 1-3). Also, in an interview with MFNW director Trevor Solomon, the Oregonian reports that the festival's bill will contain 18 bands, down from the 170 of last year's festival, a multi-day, multi-venue affair that was spread out across the city. That's an enormous difference. With only 18 bands on the MFNW bill, that actually makes Pickathon—with multiple stages and a diverse bill of more than 50 acts last year—start to look like the big dog of Portland music festivals.

Some positive changes, as posted on MFNW's site: Wristbands will cost less, and the festival is much more all-ages friendly than before. Those are two changes we can definitely get behind. Also, food carts. More MFNW information as it comes; the lineup will be announced in April.
