Once a month, Mississippi Studios and the Mercury teams up to host a free show of great local music. It's called Ear Candy, and we've typically showcased great Portland bands.

Not tonight. Tonight, Mississippi Studios will be home to a very special Emerald City edition of Ear Candy, featuring two really amazing and wonderful Seattle bands: BOAT and the Comettes.

BOAT are longtime faves of the Merc; their catchy, lovey, all-around super-duper rock jams are what make life worth living. And tonight is a very special BOAT show, as former drummer Jackson Long returns to the BOAT fold for his first show with them in many moons.

The Comettes are another terrific Seattle band, extending dreamy tendrils of gorgeous Northwest rock that has echoes of the '60s and surf parties, but otherwise sounds timeless.

Did I mention this is all entirely FREE? It's going to be the best Friday night on record. I know there's a big game tonight, but you definitely won't want to miss this.

Ear Candy w/BOAT, the Comettes; Mississippi Studios, 3939 N Mississippi, 9 pm, FREE
