This Week's Style Events

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Thu, Jun 5, 2014 at 9:59 AM

The first week of every month is always a doozy. Don't forget to keep an eye on MOD for daily updates and calendar additions. Plus in this week's Sold Out column, we take a look at a pop-up that features Portland's first shot at the Ouur line of apparel from Kinfolk and the latest activation of the Museum of Contemporary Craft's Fashioning Cascadia exhibit, "Fashion Safehouse":

• Sarah Bibb’s NW Portland shop and production house Folly celebrates its six-year anniversary with a party featuring prizes, factory tours, and more. Folly, 1005 NW 16th, Thurs, June 5, 6 pm

• The West End’s newest retail complex, Union Way, is jumping into the First Thursday game, with a building-wide “Walk A Block Party” that features all nine businesses hosting sales, refreshments, DJs, and more, like a Shwood pop-up at Danner Boots. Union Way, 1022 SW 10th, Thurs June 5, 4-8 pm

• Those plugged in to the wellness scene may be familiar with the Indian system of Ayurveda, and this month the Art Institute’s Steven Goldman Gallery makes it its focus with an exhibit called, um, “Got Ayurveda?” The opening features “a sample of Ayurvedic experience for the senses.” The Art Institute of Portland, 1122 NW Davis, Thurs June 5, 6-8 pm

Yo Vintage! was an unmistakable presence online and at events long before it even found itself a brick 'n' mortar home, but this week marks two years of said physical space. What other way to celebrate than to inhabit it with champers, a DJ, and shoppers enjoying goodie bags and 25 percent off storewide? Yo Vintage!, 413 SW 13th, Thurs June 5, 6-9 pm

Union Rose hosts another First Friday in Montavilla featuring clothing line Volacious along with original paintings by card maker Ursula Barton to peruse over drinks and snacks. Union Rose, 7909 SE Stark, Fri, June 6, 6-9 pm

Wanderlust is re-launching a monthly series called “Window Dressing,” in which they invite artists to decorate the shop window. Each installation will be christened with an opening party, and first up is multimedia artist BT Livermore’s, titled, “Anywhere & Everywhere.” Wanderlust Vintage, 2804 SE Ankeny, Fri, June 6, 5-9 pm

Parallel is marking Year Six with a three-day anniversary sale, featuring 25% off storewide (online customers use code: ME6NOW). Parallel, 1016 SW Washington, Fri June 6-Sun June 8

• This week may mark the famous World Naked Bike Ride, but Popina Swimwear is offering a less-exposing alternative/warm-up: The first annual Bikini Bike Ride. Bikini-clad riders will be treated to Kona beers at the shop prior to a two-mile ride with an after-party—with time to spare for those who wish to continue on to the WNBR! Popina Swimear, 2030 NE 42nd, Sat June 7, 5 pm; after-party at Velo Cult, 1969 NE 42nd, 6:30 pm

• One of the city’s most important institutions of local manufacturing is having a birthday: ADX is celebrating seven years, with a bash boasting BBQ, music, drinks, games, prizes, and more. ADX, 417 SE 11th, Sat June 7, noon-8 pm
