Royal Tenenbaums & Monkeys with Guns: It's This Week's Mercury Film Section!

WES' WORLD: WES ANDERSON AND HIS INFLUENCES The NW Film Center has a fantastic Wes Anderson film series lined up—not only are all of Anderson's films playing (with the exception of The Grand Budapest Hotel), but so are influential films from the likes of Hal Ashby, François Truffaut, Robert Altman, and Werner Herzog. And if you go see Moonrise Kingdom you might see meeeeeeeee!

DAWN OF THE PLANET OF THE APES I like the Planet of the Apes movies more than I like most people, and I daresay that this one... is the best one? It's definitely up there with the 1968 original and 1972's Conquest of the Planet of the Apes. Even if you don't generally go for movies about ape rebellions, this one is great.

A BRONY TALE And with a single review, Elinor Jones became Brony Public Enemy Number One.

CITIZEN KOCH Dirk VanderHart takes a look at a documentary about the nefarious Charles and David Koch. And finds a way to fit in a Licensed to Ill reference.

THE BATTERED BASTARDS OF BASEBALL Believe it or not, there was a time when Portland sports fans didn't rabidly cosplay as the Timbers at every opportunity—instead, they went apeshit bugnuts over baseball! Denis C. Theriault watched the documentary about the all-but-forgotten Portland Mavericks.

There's more, as ever, in our Film Shorts—including a Ned Lannamann's take on Paul Haggis' latest, Third Person, as well as a heads up that both Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Raiders of the Lost Ark are both back on the big screen at the Hollywood. And here are your Movie Times. Choose wisely.
