MusicfestNW Director Trevor Solomon Will Be Replaced by Monqui's Matthew McLean

Posted by Ned Lannamann on Fri, Aug 8, 2014 at 3:14 PM

Trevor Solomon has been booking MusicfestNW since 2006. And it was reported today by Willamette Week—the paper that puts on the music festival each year in Portland—that 2014 will be Solomon's last. After this year's festival, which takes place the weekend of August 16 and 17, Solomon and his family will be moving to Boston, where he'll book the Boston Calling festival. His replacement, Matthew McLean, will be leaving his current position as a talent buyer for Monqui Presents to take over MFNW's booking for next year's festival.

WW has an "exit interview" with Solomon about the changes. He specifically addresses the criticism that stemmed from the shift in format for this year's festival, but states that the real reason for the move is that the opportunity in Boston "presented itself to me."

I don't think the change and the criticism led me to move. I think the criticism was a bummer. I get it and I'm OK with it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. But I wasn't like, "This sucks, I'm going to find something else." I was like, "I'm going to battle this through and hopefully it works." And I still believe that, because it's coming up next week and I'm still here. I want it to do well.
Solomon was, and continues to be, a vital energizer in the Portland music scene. He will be sorely missed, not just in his capacity as MFNW's executive director, but all-around good dude about town. Fortunately, McLean is equally as good a dude. Read the full Q&A with Solomon at WW.
