Double Barrel is a bar in a creative town, and as such they are given to the same fits of creative pique that make this an interesting place to live. They couldn’t leave their prior Burger Week burger well enough alone, and decided to one-up themselves. Late last week I was called back from my quiet place under a shade tree in Tygh Valley to come and sample their (we think final) Burger Week offering: The Burnin’ Love Burger.
This $5 entrant is a charred Painted Hills ground chuck patty with proper 80/20 juiciness. They throw on tender bacon and deep-fried jalapeño rings, then dose it with their killer creative masterstroke: a housemade spicy Southern pimiento cheese that gets all the other ingredients in a line and creates a marriage ceremony “in your mouth.” It’s a heavy handful, and the smooth heat from the rich, creamy, melting cheese spikes intensely with the jalapeños. Put a pint and a shot back for a psychotropically rewarding half hour of bliss.

Important reminder: THESE BURGERS WILL SELL OUT. Last year’s restaurants had one main issue with the event last year, and that was people getting angry and rude when they found out that they are part of a reality where restaurants that are getting slammed run out of food. We have better forecasting numbers this year, but please: go early, be kind, get a drink, and, most importantly, a $5 burger is a privilege, not a right. You know what someone who acts like a horse’s ass is? Hint: It has two enormous buttocks and large poops fall out of the middle.
