Our interview with the brilliant comedian Emo Philips is a thing of wonder and delight. A few highlights:
What were you like as a kid?I was an underweight asthmatic bookworm in a sedate suburb of Chicago. But since it was the '60s, I was Huck Finn compared to any American child today.
Who got you interested in doing comedy? My mom made me want to be a stand-up, because she laughed hysterically at everything that I said. Later, I realized that she laughed hysterically at everything that everybody said, but by then it was too late: I had already been on Letterman.
