The Wedge cheese fest returns on Saturday, and it’s a must for anyone with a love of regional cheeses. The main reason for attendance is the opportunity to sample selections—some rare and small batch—from over 30 artisan cheese makers from the Northwest (stretching across Oregon, Washington, California, Utah and Idaho). And there’s a lot of good stuff: favorites, such as Willamette Valley, Portland Creamery and Ancient Heritage will be present alongside lesser-known brands, including Pholia Farm, which makes raw milk cheeses from Nigerian Dwarf Goats. Even better is that the cheese is available to purchase (the entry fee includes a $5 token to spend on cheese).

As well as cheese tasting, there are classes explaining how best to pair cheese with beer, (local) wine and accouterments, while the more curious activities include cheese wheel bowling and a milk dunk tank. There will also be beer, wine, ciders and spirits, along with jams, honeys and bread. If you're lucky you can probably get your picture taken with the Tillamook mascot. It’s family and dog friendly, too.
The Wedge, located at Green Dragon Bistro and Brew Pub (and surrounding streets), Saturday, noon–5 pm, $11 adv./$15 on door (inc. $5 token)
