Today, the news came out that Emerald City Comic Con—beloved for its accessibility and reasonable scale—has been acquired by big-name events company ReedPOP. In a weird turn of events, ECCC's organizers have also been acquired by ReedPOP—they'll be taking on new roles within the larger company. In an exclusive, sprawling interview with Comics Alliance, ECCC Director Jim Demonakos and ReedPOP Vice President Lance Fensterman expressed a desire to preserve what's great about ECCC. What's not clear, however, is how this shift will affect Rose City Comic Con.

Here's the closest Demonakos gets to discussing what's going to happen:

CA: In 2014, Emerald City entered into a relationship with Rose City Comic Con in Portland, helping organize and promote that show – does ECCC’s acquisition by ReedPOP mean that Rose City will be doing their own thing this year?

JD: Yes, Rose City will once again be operating as an independent organization, and they’re getting bigger and better. They’re an incredible show in a great city, and they’re definitely ones to keep an eye on!

Rose City has responded by posting the following on its website:

Rose City Comic Con remains an independent Oregon based company. Our goal is to serve Oregon and the entire Northwest with all your pop-culture needs. We're looking forward to our event in September and we hope to see you there!

Rose City Comic Con and Emerald City Comic Con teamed up in 2012, announcing a formal partnership following convention giant Wizard World's decision to hold a convention closely timed with Rose City.
