  • EARTHQUAKE HURRICANE: Kickstand co-founder Reiff calls Earthquake Hurricane one of the space's "anchor shows." It's been suspended, along with the rest of the space's programming.

Yesterday morning, the team at Kickstand Comedy Space announced via the space's Facebook page that all programming at Kickstand—and at Velocult, the bike shop where Kickstand is housed—would be suspended. The post didn't specify what had happened to necessitate this, but put out a call for assistance with finding a temporary performance space.

IMPORTANT BUMMER NEWS:

Hi Everyone,

Some sad news came in this weekend. Details are still scarce for now, but as of this Monday we will have to temporarily suspend our programming at Kickstand.

We'll know more in the coming week, but currently all live performance and group assembly is postponed both upstairs and downstairs at Velo Cult.

We are deciding the best course of action which may be anything from opening a temp. space until things get figured out, to starting an indiegogo or kickstarter.

Anyone interested in helping out with a temp space, or any ideas or people in your networks who might be able to help us get back up and running as soon as possible would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for everyone who has been making Kickstand such a rad and special space and we hope with your continued support to get back to it.

For now the best way you can help out is to invite your friends to "like our fbook page", stay informed, and rally behind us when we figure out our next move!!

Best,
The Kickstand Crew

Bummer news is right. Since its inception back in December, Kickstand has provided some of this city's most consistently great stand-up shows, and a space for some of our most beloved stand-ups to hone their jokes in front of a packed but supportive audience. As recently as last week, things seemed to be going well for Kickstand, with the space's organizers planning to expand programming, said co-founder Dylan Reiff, when I met with him last week. It's unclear what will happen to those plans now. Since Sunday's post, individual performers have announced cancelations of their Kickstand shows. Here's hoping this is a temporary setback.

I have an email in to Kickstand right now.
