Local indie label Kill Rock Stars just sent out a press release with great news if, like me, you consider comedian Emily Heller to be your imaginary best friend (hi, Emily!). Heller has joined the growing number of stand-ups under KRS' purview—including Hari Kondabolu, Cameron Esposito, and our own Ian Karmel—and it seems exactly like the right fit for Heller and her deadpan, feminist-informed comedy. Kondabolu in particular is known for the political bent his stand-up takes, and though Heller's comedy differs significantly from his (she is the goofiest, just one of the reasons why SHE RULES), it's similar in its uncanny ability to take on undertones of advocacy without getting preachy or dull.

She'll be recording her first comedy album with the label June 3. Quoth KRS: "We’ve been fans of Emily’s comedy stylings for a few years now, so when she asked us if we would want to release her album, we considered it for less than thirty seconds before replying, 'YES, PLEASE!'"

That's funny, because that's exactly what I said when I saw their press release. I can't wait to listen to Heller's jokes about feminism and being a horrible housesitter as soon as this thing gets pressed! In the meantime, let's all prepare by catching up on Heller's podcast, Baby Geniuses, which she co-hosts with—amazingly!—cartoonist Lisa Hanawalt. You can do that here.
