THIS JUST IN! Lovably witty stand-up Whitney Streed (above, watch the video please if you haven't already) is hosting a brand spankin' new comedy showcase, and the first show already sounds great, with a lineup featuring the wondrous Katie Rose Leon, Adam Pasi, Caitlin Weierhauser, and more, with Kristine Levine headlining. It's called "Steel Grit Saturdays" and it's, oh minor detail, IN BEAVERTON. So if you want to go, I hope you have a friend with a car. JK, it's actually on the MAX. The more you know!

Beaverton hasn't had its own regular comedy showcase until now, and Whitney Streed IS A TREASURE. What's going on? Has the heady foment of Portland's comedy scene begun seeping into the 'burbs? Is this the beginning of the end? As one of my friends so aptly put it, is it opposite day? And why is it called Steel Grit? Is that like Blue Steel? Someone help me out here!

The press release for Steel Grit touts it as "the first and only monthly comedy show in the City of Beaverton, and quite possibly the only monthly show in the Portland area that directly benefits performing arts," which may well be true—proceeds go to the Experience Theatre Project's children's programs—although I can think of plenty of stand-up-based fundraisers for good causes, like the recent Stand-Up for Mental Health show at Helium.

The first Steel Grit Saturday is slated for July, giving you plenty of time to decide how you feel about all of this.
