The AP is reporting that Nike co-founder Phil Knight has announced he's stepping down at the age of 76. He leaves with the recommendation that Nike President and CEO Mark Parker succeed him as Chairman of the company. His son, Travis, was also given a spot on the board of directors today.

It's not terribly surprising—he's been building this company since 1968, is well past the standard age of retirement, and his current estimated net worth of 22.4 billion seems like a good stopping point. But it's the end of an era nonetheless.

The one terrible photo of Knight on Wikimedia Commons. Given his companys litigious reputation, I dare not use anything else.
