TIN HOUSE SUMMER READING SERIES—Ugh, if you're a book-nerd like me, you're probably drooling over Tin House's dreamy lineup for their outdoor summer reading series, hosted in conjunction with the fancy-pants Tin House Writer's Workshop. Joshua James Amberson has drafted a wonderful game-plan for the readings, and I'll see you there, at Maggie Nelson's reading, probably crying. From Joshua's preview:

...sometimes authors come completely out of left field—like when Mary Ruefle read an essay about shrunken heads last year. Even if nothing like that happens, it's a (free) chance to sit outside at dusk and listen to great authors.

DOES THAT NOT SOUND PERFECT?

DANCE+ FESTIVAL—Despite housing woes earlier this year, Conduit Dance is hosting their annual DANCE+ Festival through Saturday, with a promising and weird lineup. If you're wondering what complications arts organizations face when they lose their performance and rehearsal spaces, look no further than Haley Martin's preview:

In a recent bout of Portland dance companies losing their home studios, Conduit wasn't spared. In March, the company was given a mere five days' notice to vacate its studio space of 20 years; they're seeking out a space that allows for long-term growth and stability, but haven't found one yet. Artistic Director Tere Mathern anticipates years of searching. "Rehearsal space in Portland just isn't available," she says. In the meantime, dancers have been rehearsing in an extra space at Polaris Dance's studio.

MARC MARON—Marc Maron's Portland shows are sold out for tonight and tomorrow. Didn't get tickets? Don't worry. I'm convinced his podcast is better than his stand-up.

In other art news: No, I won't be joining your Harper Lee book club. Comedian Nathan Brannon is fine with you buying a Confederate flag, "I just want you to have to pay a Black dude to get it." Amy Miller is Portland's Funniest Person. Get better, Veronica Heath!
