On Monday morning students at Umpqua Community College in Roseburg returned to classes for the first time since the Oct. 1 massacre that left nine students and faculty members dead and nine others injured.

There's been a lot of attention paid to Roseburg in the last week-and-a-half. Some of it directly about the horrible tragedy and some about President Barack Obama's visit last Friday. It's not all been positive coverage.

Yesterday, though, the small community rallied around the college and those returning to classes with a huge turnout. There's only one way to get to UCC (unless you go by boat), and dozens of people showed up to line the road and support those returning to campus following the horror of Oct. 1.

Roseburg resident Daniel McCue uploaded this video of his return to campus:

Governor Kate Brown and UCC interim President Rita Cavin were on campus yesterday talking with returning students and staff. Brown held a news conference after touring the campus.

The youngest victim in the shooting, 16-year-old Cheyeanne Fitzgerald, was released from the hospital today after being shot once in the back. The bullet lodged in her kidney and doctors had to remove the organ.

The most seriously wounded survivor, Julie Woodworth, remains hospitalized but had her condition upgraded from critical to serious condition.
