We mentioned this the other day, but it's official now: Sarah Iannarone, who works with Mayor Charlie Hales's wife, Nancy, at Portland State University, plans to announce her candidacy for mayor this morning.

According to a news release sent out last night, Iannarone will hold an event at Portland City Hall at 11 am laying out her reasons for running. News outlets in town have suggested it might be at the urging of Hales.

At PSU, Iannarone helps run a program that runs "study tours" of Portland for visiting delegations (much more info about this and her other pursuits is on her PSU bio). She's also the co-owner of the Arleta Library Bakery and Café—a distinction which landed her some press in the Oregonian last year, after she used her baking prowess to help Nancy Hales win a cake contest.

Incidentally, Iannarone will want to make sure her campaign staff knows how to spell her name going forward. A notice sent out to media organizations last night didn't get it right once, spelling it "Innarone." We'll post more once we've heard from Iannarone herself this morning.

Right now, nine people have signed up to run for mayor, all of them men.
