Nintendo Resurrects Punch-Out for the Wii

Nintendo just revealed that the company is working on a new version of Punch-Out to be released on the Wii sometime in 2009.

There's not much in the way of details so far -- Nintendo teases these things worse than Tia Tequila in a room full of 14-year-old boys -- but the firm has slapped a tiny video up on their Japanese web site.

Obviously it would be too much to hope that Nintendo will resurrect the career of Mike Tyson alongside the boxing series he was initially linked to (this was before we found out he likes to rape and punch the ladies), but the video does suggest that the series' trademark stereotyping of other cultures is intact.

Expect mobbed-up Italians, fey Frenchmen, drunk Irish AND Russian boxers, and Native Americans who drink heavily before succumbing to the crushing depression spawned by having their native lands stolen by the white man.
