Noone who wants to protect their political career wants to address the truth-vortex at hand, which is, that cops in the US are trained and acculturated to behave in a sub-human fashion.

Noone wants to go there publically. People might start a full-scale mutiny.

Gotta tell ya, although I was DEFINITELY going to emigrate if Palin won the election, I had one spot of respect for her, namely, that she wanted to fire an alcoholic rage-prone trooper who thought it was funny to taser his stepson.

I'm not clear how a new "sub-acute" facility that will involuntarily hold people who have committed no crime and are not a danger to anyone will prevent cops from stomping the next guy whose looks they don't like. Can somebody explain this? What is Wheeler smoking? I call this incarcerating the victims!

The sense I got from listening to Ted Wheeler speak about both the new facility they seem to have found the cash to fund and the Chasse settlement it's like using a spatula to tune a piano. The courts are the wrong mechanism to define and determine policy - in the clinics, in the jail, or in the squad car.

What's unstated so far is the county's 'share' of liability is about 10% of the City and AMR. When Tami Hergert failed to do a body check on Jim, she floundered the system, already distressed by adrenaline, wrong decisions, stigma and hatred, and who knows what sort of bad chemicals.

It pains me that the officers involved in this murder of James Chasse are still employed by our local government. They tortured a man to death as he begged for his life, and got a pat on the back for it. I'd like to see a comprehensive story on the whole ordeal on the cover of next week's printed issue. Readers interested in the case might be interested in the Alien Boy documentary film about James Chasse, it is in the last stages of production: http://alienboydoc.wordpress.com/
