@DENIS: AS SOMEONE WHO GREW UP WITHIN THE RADIUS OF CHICAGO'S INFLUENCE, I FIND SQUARE CUT PIZZA TO BE AN ABOMINATION SIMILAR TO 'PISS CHRIST'. HOWEVER, I MISS MISS MISS MISS A GOOD PAN PIZZA. EVERYONE ON THE WEST COAST IS MAKING THOSE STUPID SCICILIAN STYLE PIZZAS OR NEW YORK STYLE.

So I'm a Chicagoan, and while I don't loathe deep-dish/stuffed pizzas, I don't make a beeline for them, either. Why not? Because it's not what real Chicagoans crave when they return home.

It's more like our version of Voodoo Doughnuts—the thing we trot out for all the tourists who don't know any better (and only occasionally, if guiltily, enjoy ourselves).

Real Chicago pizza is thin and crispy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago-style…

And even that can't compare to a good Chicago-style beef sandwich, dripping in juice and slathered in fried green peppers.

(But Alex *is* correct about the denizens. Especially if he was haunting Rush Street or the Clark Street corridor slinking up through the North Side.)

"Chicago in the summer feels like you're nestled in the country's underwear." = well said.

This is a very perceptive piece on Chicago and Chicagoans.
