Don't cry for Cyl, Oregonia
The truth is she'll never leave Kitz
Cylvita's wild days
Her mad existence
Were simply private!
(Just ask her lawyer...)

Between conflicts of interest and tax evasion, Cylvia is just screwed.

But here are the real problematic parts for Kitz (that we know about so far):

Telling associates that Hayes is looking for consulting work, and then giving them state jobs shortly after they help find some work for her.

Telling state employees to hire the Demos official.

Less concrete is simply letting Hayes get away with all this stuff from his home and the Gov's office. Hard to argue detachment when you live and work and are engaged to the corrupt individual.

The most worrisome part of this to me as an Oregonian is that he likely didn't think that any of this was unethical, much less illegal. We've reached a point where the controlling political party and it's insider network has gotten so comfortable that handing out jobs, and contracts, and money and influence to friends and family no longer sets off their own inner alarm bells.

Good summary, by the way, Denis.

Yeah, Hayes is definitely screwed. Don't know if it's prison-worthy, but it's definitely the end of this avenue of her career.

I've still seen nothing though that makes me thing Kitzhaber should resign, just because his fiancee did things wrong. I know Nigel Jackass thinks everyone's sex life is highly relevant to public policy, but nobody else does. I don't think Kitzhaber is effectual enough to be completely on top of these issues, which is hardly praise, but would also mean that he wasn't aware of the conflicts and so can't be blamed for them. Find something that directly links him (not his fiancee) with wrongdoing, and that will be a game changer.

I have to disagree STU. Not that I have anything against Kitzhaber, I voted for him after all. Being ineffectual is not a defense. It was his responsibility to be aware of these things and to be watching out for them. At the very least he is now a political neuter and will be a waste of perfectly good salary to keep in office.

I wonder what Mark Weiner has to say about all this.

Nice job summing up the timeline Denis.

I think the last bit of Blabbys first comment is especially relevant, although I think it's worrisome to citizens across the country, not just Oregonians. I mean that when these kind of shenanigans come to light, you can't help but get the feeling that it's fairly routine in politics for this to happen. Mostly because very few people are paying close enough attention, but also because it's just become part of the business of being in politics.

The Kitz is gone, and should be. However, even today, he is a better candidate for gov than the guy he ran against. That's how batshit the repubs are in this state.
10
Time to send Kitz and Hayes instructions on how to use their prison commissary food to make neat jailhouse recipes. Making cheese spread in jail is an art.

By looking at Kitz's tie, he's already sus...

I like Balbby's summary of Denis' summary. Well, now you can ad one more item to the list. Our hero has been subpoenaed to submit evidence to a grand jury before March Tenth. That doesn't leave him much time to take most the equity out of his realty with loans, transfer the funds to Swiss Annuities, and move to Brazil, but that's sure as Hell what he'd better do, or else he's going to be spending the remainder of his golden years fighting this bullshit and/or, languishing in prison.

Speaking of items, I wouldn't be surprised it Brown and Hayes are have been in fact an item all along.
14
If I were him, I'd fly to Puerto Rico, TONIGHT, then charter a boat to Rio.
15
Of course it so far sounds to me that Hayes has in not been acting in any official capacity, and as no one has charged her with influence peddling, I think the good doctor is right; he will be found to have done nothing factually wrong, if not foolish, perhaps, but why stick around and put up with the accusations from detractors, and further horsehsit from that minx? I'd take my cue and be headed for retirement, off shore.
16
Now it's turning into a great big cluster fuck fishing expedition. Prosecutors don't have shit, butt for the shit in their pants that there isn't any evidence of any wrong doing, so they are desperately searching so far afield in a desperate attempt, that I won't be surprised to see them go so far as to evidence manufactured like in the cases of OJ Simpson and Robert Blake. Our good, Governor stepped down for no good reason, other than his sleazy girlfriend made him look bad.
17
Cool your jets there Blabby. Hayes hasn't been accused of tax evasion. This just goes to show how bullshit gets even the Governor investigated. There isn't even any probable cause. If the State Revenue Department isn't concerned, and the IRS isn't concerned, the rumor mongers ought to be sued for liable and the prosecutors ought to be charged with the crime of malicious prosecution. The lobbyists behind this character assassination knew from past experience that their not so happy afterall agenda would not get furthered with Dr Kitzhaber as Governor, so weren't about to be 'tolerant' of one more term.

Please wait...
